Why not join a warden for the morning and help complete our bittern and marsh harrier nest watch surveys? Spectacular views, hot drinks, pastries and transport are all included.
As we move into the second half of Spring, the behaviour of our bitterns and marsh harriers changes as they get down to the serious business of hatching, rearing and fledging the next generation. These surveys focus on recording flights by both bitterns and marsh harriers to and from nest sites- and patterns in this behaviour can tell us approximately where the nests are. We will plot these locations and monitor them weekly for signs of success or failure, and these surveys are crucial in helping us build a picture of how marsh harriers and bitterns are doing at Lakenheath Fen. Join the team one morning to help our wardens record the action- and be part of conservation work here. Hot drinks, pastries and transport down the reserve are provided, and please feel free to ask questions about the reserve.
Booking essential (online only) with a maximum of two places per survey session. Please dress appropriately according to the weather conditions. It can be very cold early in the morning so wear plenty of layers! This event is weather dependent.
