This May half term and Jubilee bank holiday you’re invited to the RSPB’s Big Picnic! Enjoy a feast with your family in the heart of nature
From blooming wildflowers to dazzling dragonflies there’s so much to enjoy in nature at this time of year, and with a long bank holiday weekend on the cards in June it’s the perfect excuse to gather your family for a good, old-fashioned picnic.
We’re holding Big Picnic events at more than 20 RSPB nature reserves including right here at Rainham Marshes over the Jubilee bank holiday and through half term, so whether you’d prefer to relax in the open space overlooking the Thames, or sit in our peaceful Wildlife Garden, there are plenty of places to tempt you.
Our café will be offering an eco-friendly individual picnic lunch option for you to purchase alongside our usual cakes and treats. Individual picnic lunch will be £4.50, to purchase from our café on your arrival. Café is open from 10am to 4.30pm everyday over the half term period.
With our special Wildlife Detective activity packs (just £3.50), young explorers can join Detective Hoot and Constable Crumb to solve an intriguing mystery, while learning how make picnics as wildlife friendly as possible.
There will be marked trails to follow, nostalgic family activities including hop scotch, welly wanging, hula hoops and giant jenga and even selfie stations too, so what are you waiting for? Start planning your family’s adventure today!
We're currently open 9.30 am-5pm every day so you can drop-in throughout the holidays. Facilities include: car park, shop, cafe, toilets, accessible pathways, 2.4 miles of trails, bicycle hire. Please note: dogs, scooters, and bicycles are allowed on the River Wall section of the reserve, but not the main trails.
