Marvellous Moth Morning at Skinflats

Did you know there are over 2,500 species of moth in the UK? Many of which are as intricately patterned as our brightest butterflies.

Come along to RSPB Skinflats to take a closer look at these night-time creatures, caught the previous night in our moth traps. Discover more with RSPB staff sharing fascinating facts and helping you to learn how to identify different moth species, such as your Elephant Hawk Moth from your Garden Tiger Moth. Finish the morning off with a hot drink and a pastry. Whether you are a novice or an expert, this activity is fun and accessible for friends, families and individuals of all ages and abilities.

Afterwards, you are welcome to explore the wonderful saltmarsh at Skinflats, embracing our local cultural heritage and spotting different wildlife such as garden birds, including our resident woodpecker, and many wading birds along the shoreline of The River Forth. The trail is a grass path so we would recommend walking boots or wellies.

It will be hosted at RSPB Skinflats reserve, FK28PP. The reserve has a car park, toilet facilities and an indoor space for the unpredictable Scottish weather! Please remember, nature is unpredictable, and we cannot guarantee what we will see. The best way to access the reserve is from the Bowtrees roundabout, follow signs for Powfoulis Manor Hotel, turn left and drive down the farm track road through the fields until a T-junction, take a left, then first right and follow a long single track road through a tunnel of beautiful trees to be surprised at the bottom of the oasis of Skinflats Reserve.
