Adder, grass snake, slow-worm, common lizard, sand lizard or even a rare smooth snake! Take part in one of our reptile surveys and who knows what you'll encounter! Arne is one of the few places in our country where you see all six species of British reptile, including the rare sand lizard and the elusive smooth snake. In small groups only and taking part in the actual survey, you will walk in some of the more sensitive areas of the reserve and explore where these creatures call home. Due to their legal status all these surveys are recorded and carried out under licence, and we will tread carefully on our journey as there are more than just reptiles to enjoy out there. This is an amazing opportunity and would make a fantastic present for any reptile or animal enthusiast. |
During the last century, populations of amphibian and reptile species have declined significantly in many areas of the world. The National Amphibian and Reptile Monitoring Programme is ARC’s (Amphibian and Reptile Conservation Trust) flagship portfolio of surveys that generates data to inform the conservation of amphibians and reptiles. A good understanding of how amphibians and reptiles are faring is key to planning and prioritising the actions needed to protect their long-term future. By taking part in this event, you will not only get a chance to see rarely seen species, but also help to safeguard their populations and the habitats on which they depend.
