Family Bug Box Activity

Rescheduled from 19 February due to Storm Eunice

Every February is the BTO's National Nestbox Week, but this year we're focussing on homes for insects!

This exclusive event is fun for all the family, personalising one of our mini bug boxes to take away for your garden or outdoor space, and help give nature a home where you live.

Ideal for children of primary school age, our friendly team will be on hand to help assemble the bug box then use colourful paints to decorate and make it your own, whilst sharing tips on where best to position it.

The event takes place in the reserve's garden, under gazebos for shelter from the weather and with ample seating for accompanying adults. Please note, the short path in the garden is unsurfaced so may not be suitable for all wheelchairs or pushchairs.

Each ticket includes one bug box plus a quiz sheet for our fun self-led family trail for afterwards, to learn all about bird nestboxes and other wildlife homes available for gardens.

Refreshments, including our brand new range of sandwiches, are available to buy from the visitor centre throughout your visit. Plus don't forget our Wild Play area for some den building and natural play.

A variety of nestboxes and other garden wildlife shelters are available to browse and order on the day for home delivery from our mail-order shop.
