2022 Seabird Taster Photography Workshops with Yorkshire Coast Nature

RSPB Bempton Cliffs is home to over 400,000 seabirds from March to September. This is a very exciting place for wildlife photography, with many great opportunities to capture all the species close up, from the birds on the cliff-face to those in flight. 

Key Species: Puffin, Gannet, Kittiwake, Fulmar, Guillemot, Razorbill, Herring Gull and Shag. 

This bird photography taster workshop will consist of a three-hour session along the cliff-top with Steve Race, Yorkshire Coast Nature award winning wildlife photographer, who has years of experience of the reserve and its wildlife. This small group workshop will be tailored towards beginners and enthusiasts who are keen to learn about and practice some of the essential skills of wildlife photography. We will be looking at how to capture that perfect image and covering field craft, technique, exposure, composition, light conditions and basic camera settings.

Group Size: 6 maximum.What you will need to bring...

You will need to bring with you your own photographic equipment. A digital SLR camera and a lens with a focal length of 200mm to 400mm would be ideal. Zoom lenses of 75-300mm or 100-400mm should give acceptable results. A tripod is essential if you have a 500mm to 800mm lens. Please also bring memory cards (minimum 2GB) and if owned, spare batteries (charged). Bridge cameras can be used. Compact cameras not recommended. Please bring appropriate clothing with you such as a windproof/waterproof jacket, if possible in muted or dark colours. Good footwear is essential as there will be some walking over uneven, and possibly wet or muddy ground. There is a £6.00 entrance fee on to the reserve for non members unless you are a member of the RSPB in which entry is free.

Facilities: The Seabird Centre includes a interpretation area, shop, servery, toilets, picnic area and 6 cliff top viewpoints.
