Discover Strumpshaw

Join our knowledgeable volunteers for a walk around the reserve, taking in the seasonal highlights and sights and sounds of the wildlife that calls Strumpshaw Fen home.

By mid May most of our migrant birds will have arrived. Enjoy the swooping dance of swallows, house martins and hobbys hawking insects from the sky. Our bluebells will be in full flower in our woodlands and our insect life will be bursting into life with a number of butterfly, dragonfly and damselfly species on the wing. There might event be the chance of spotting the 1st Swallowtail of the year! Our knowledgeable volunteers will know exactly what is out and about and will look forward to guiding you to the best spots to see it. May really is the month for some magical seasonal moments.

Along the way you’ll discover more about the history of the site and what the RSPB is currently doing to promote and preserve the wildlife of this special landscape.

This event will last for around 1 ½ to 2 hours, after which we hope you’ll stay and explore the rest of Strumpshaw on your own. Your guide will recommend key areas of the reserve to visit and wildlife to look out for.
