Slow Looking at Ynys-hir - Art Exhibition by Anthea Cox BA (Hons)

I live locally, with my husband, and we have brought up our three children here.

I studied Art at Aberystwyth University as a mature student and then worked as a

Playworker and Forest School Leader mentoring young people and others to learn and play in the

outdoors, while continuing with my art practise. This has always been led by my fascination and love

of the natural world and how we find connections within it.

In recent years I have been studying Natural History Illustration using watercolour, pen and ink, and

charcoal.  I had the opportunity to make a booklet and chose Ynyshir Bird Reserve for my location.

While I was eagerly roaming the diverse site for inspiration I soon realised that slowing down was

the key. When I sat still in one place I was rewarded with delights. I saw tiny insects busy in their

own worlds and heard the surprisingly loud sound of a lone raven’s wings as it steadfastly flapped

overhead. Being immersed in Nature in all weathers has influenced me as an artist

and I strive to convey the stories unfolding around me.
