Lyrid Meteor Shower at RSPB St Aidan's

Ever looked up at a star-lit sky and wished upon a ‘shooting star’? Well now is your chance to find out more about meteors!

Join us for an evening being wowed by the Lyrid meteor shower, led by the Wakefield and District Astronomical Society. This session will give you opportunity to learn about when, how and why meteor showers occur, with experts also on hand to point out other amazing astronomical features visible in the night sky such as planets, constellations and galaxies. There will be a range of telescope types, binoculars and optical equipment so you can get the best views possible - and of course you can get your questions answered and receive hands-on advice.

A hot drink is included in the ticket price, and other snacks and drinks will be available to purchase. We do advise wearing warm, comfortable clothing. Please note that this event is not suitable for dogs.

Yorkshire weather is famously unpredictable, and we can't guarantee a clear sky for this event - but we can promise a fun and informative evening! In the case of cloud or bad weather, we will have an indoor presentation on meteors, astronomical activities, and keep an eye out for gaps in the cloud cover.
