Seabird Conservation Experience

Each year our Seabird Monitoring team, lead by our Warden and Seabird Research Assistant, monitor, record and evaluate the productivity of the seabirds here across the Flamborough, Bempton and Filey Special Protection Area (SPA). This data is used to aid specific conservation efforts around the UK.

Guided by our expert team leaders, you will spend time at the cliff edge helping to monitor and gather data on the breeding productivity of several key species of seabird. During the early summer season this will involve monitoring some of our most populous species including kittiwakes, gannets, razorbills and guillemots.

You will visit multiple locations along the cliffs and may also have the opportunity to support the conservation efforts of some of our other species on the reserve, including our successful tree sparrow BTO (British Trust for Ornithology) nest box monitoring scheme.

This is a unique opportunity to understand what happens behind the scenes here at Bempton Cliffs and you'll gain an insight into the science and conservation efforts for England's only mainland seabird colony.

There will be a break for lunch included in the day and this will be provided, including hot or cold drink.

PLEASE NOTE: This event is heavily influenced by weather, therefore if we experience any poor weather conditions we may have to cancel or postpone this event.

This event will take place outside and will often involve spending long periods of time watching wildlife. Bempton can be cold and windy at any time of year, so please dress appropriately and wear sensible and warm footwear.
