Big Picnic family nature trail at RSPB Ham Wall

Join us at RSPB Ham Wall for the Big Picnic! From blooming wildflowers to dazzling dragonflies there’s so much to enjoy in nature at this time of year, and with a long bank holiday weekend on the cards in June it’s the perfect excuse to gather your family for a good, old-fashioned picnic.

Bring your own low-impact - low-waste picnic to the reserve to enjoy your lunch surrounded by nature! Additional picnic items, such as hot and cold drinks, prepacked snacks such as cookies, crisps and flapjacks and ice creams can be purchased from our on-site café. There are picnic tables and benches situated by the Mini Marshes and on the Reedbed trail for you to sit and enjoy your picnic.

With our special Wildlife Detective activity packs (just £3.50), young explorers will be able to join Detective Hoot and Constable Crumbs to solve an intriguing mystery, while learning how make picnics as wildlife friendly as possible.

There will be marked trails to follow, fun family activities and even selfie stations too, so what are you waiting for? Start planning your family’s adventure today!

Activity packs are £3.50 each and can be purchased from the Info Point. Trails are available from 10.30am - 3pm. No prior booking is required. The last trail activity boxes are sold at 3pm.

There will also be additional self-led pavement games around the Mini Marshes, such as hopscotch.

Trails and activities are aimed at children aged 3-11 years old but are fun for all of the family. Please note that dogs are not permitted on some parts of the trail route. Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult at all times.

Don't forgot to be prepared for a little mud (which can make it more fun!). Trails are suitable for wheels as all paths are hardstanding. For more information on accessibility at Ham Wall please see https://www.accessibilityguides.org/content/rspb-ham-wall-0. We do ask that all waste from your lunch is taken home with you.

Admission to Ham Wall nature reserve is free for RSPB members, parking fees (£3 all day) apply for non-members.
