Big Picnic at Burton Mere Wetlands

From blooming wildflowers to dazzling dragonflies there’s so much to enjoy in nature at this time of year, and with a long bank holiday weekend on the cards in June it’s the perfect excuse to gather your family for a good, old-fashioned picnic.

We’re inviting you to a Big Picnic at Burton Mere Wetlands every day during school half term including the four day bank holiday weekend, so whether you’d prefer to relax in the dappled shade of our woodland, beside our garden ponds or take in spectacular views from Burton Point headland, there are plenty of places to choose from.

With our special Wildlife Detective activity packs (just £3.50), young explorers will be able to join Detective Hoot and Constable Crumb to solve an intriguing mystery, while learning how to make picnics as wildlife friendly as possible.

There will be a marked trail to follow, fun family activities and even a selfie station too, so what are you waiting for? Start planning your family’s adventure today!

Borrow one of our picnic hampers to fill from our delicious range of sustainably-packaged sandwiches (available Tuesday to Sunday) and a tempting selection of snacks, drinks and ice creams (available every day) before venturing out to enjoy your feast in the fresh air.

Or, bring your own picnic from home and soak up the sights and sounds from one of several picnic tables, benches or find a patch of grass to lay your blanket.

No need to book, just ask about the activity packs at the visitor welcome on arrival. Normal entry charges apply to non-members, for details see our website: https://www.rspb.org.uk/reserves-and-events/reserves-a-z/dee-estuary-burton-mere-wetlands/
