Big Wild Sleep Out 2022 at Farnham Heath

This year RSPB Farnham Heath is turning 20! As part of our 20th anniversary celebrations, we are thrilled to be once again hosting the ever-popular Big Wild Sleep Out for 2022.

It’s time to dust off your camping gear and pitch up in a secret part of our reserve where only the wildlife is usually allowed. Whilst you’re setting up and cooking your food on our BBQs, we’ll have a refreshments tent providing teas, coffees, and soft drinks to keep you going for the evening ahead. Our expert volunteers will also be on hand to help the youngsters identify minibeasts in our ‘Wild Zones’ while the grown ups cook supper.

Once the tents are set up and everyone has had some food, there will be  guided walks as the sun goes down; a shorter walk looking for the heathland wildlife whilst a longer walk will be taking you into the night to listen for bats and nightjars. Once back at the campsite, we’ll hold our ‘Nature Quiz’  around the campfire, with hot chocolate and marshmallows to toast.  As night falls, our moth trap will be set up and unveiled in the morning.

This event runs from Saturday 30th July afternoon to Sunday 31st July morning. Bring your own camping equipment and food to cook, RSPB will provide hot and cold drinks, marshmallows, and a croissant breakfast. Slabs are provided for you to set up stoves and we will provide larger BBQ’s and charcoal for cooking.

Sorry, no dogs.

Full details will be sent shortly after booking tickets.

This is a booking only event, please purchase tickets above.

Information on Access and Arrival

Meet at the Rural Life Living Museum car park so we can get everyone booked in and luggage loaded into our truck. We will transport your gear whilst our volunteers will walk with you to the campsite and show you some of the features of our reserve.

The walk to the meadow is almost completely flat with the odd dip in the track and takes about 20-30 minutes. We do need to cross a main road, but we’ll make sure the road is clear and that everyone gets across safely.

What to bring with you:

Please wear suitable outdoor clothing and footwear for this event; a torch, insect repellent, and binoculars are recommended. The ground will be uneven and possibly damp depending on the prevailing weather at the time.

Please bring any camping equipment you would need for an overnight stay - full list to follow on ticket purchase.

Portable toilets will be provided at the camp site.
