Birdwatching for beginners at The Lodge

Whether you are interested in taking up a new hobby or simply want to gain more confidence in identifying species at home, then our 'Birdwatching for beginners' is for you!

In this guided walk, we will cover everything from how to use binoculars, to bird migration and how to listen, not just watch. Tips and guidance will also look at the sexual dimorphism of species and the all important giss.

This is the perfect warm-up event for this year's Big Garden Birdwatch, 27-29 January, giving you the perfect tools to identify your garden visitors!

Please ensure you have suitable outdoor, waterproof clothing and footwear. Please bring your own binoculars - if you do not have your own, then pairs of binoculars may be hired from the Gatehouse Shop at an additional cost.

This event is aimed at adults and, although young adults are welcome, the event is not suitable for small children. We will be going over uneven ground, making the walk sadly not suitable for buggies or anyone using a wheelchair. If you have any mobility issues, please contact us before purchasing any tickets.

The group size will be limited to a maximum of 10.

Please meet in the picnic area outside the shop 10 minutes before the event starts. Please arrive earlier and head straight to the shop if you plan to hire any binoculars.

This event is held twice:

Saturday 14 January 10am-12pm

Sunday 15 January 10am-12pm
