As evening falls and the sun goes down we have a special event at Newport Wetlands combining a fabulous stargazing experience alongside wildlife walks and activities. This event is suitable for adults and children with something for everyone.
On arrival we will be serving a hot meal with a side and drinks and mid- way through the evening we will break for marshmallows and hot chocolate around the fire pit (subject to weather conditions). An email will be sent in the run up to the event asking for dietary requires.
For the first part of the evening there will be some hands on activities including sweep netting, pond dipping and crafts (conditions permitting); we will also have our moth expert to show us all we need to know about moth trapping.
As an alternative there will be the option of a peaceful after hours guided walk around the reserve.
From 8pm Usk Astronomical Society will be here for the stargazing special. We will have an indoor planetarium and presentation before heading out onto the reserve for some dark sky stargazing with telescopes. We will be joined by local bat ecologists for a bat walk using our detectors to see what species come out during the dark.
Children must be accompanied by an adult with a purchased ticket. Under 3's are free. Please bring warm clothes as the temperature falls dramatically as the sun sets.
Please aim to arrive 5:30pm and the event will draw to a close around 11:30pm. Our shop will remain open until 7pm.
There will be a car park charge of £4 per car payable on the night for non members of the RSPB. Any queries please email Newport-Wetlands@rspb.org.uk for further information.
