Sundown at RSPB Lakenheath Fen (accessible)

Join us on this new event to experience the reserve as dusk falls over the reedbed. This event is designed to be accessible for all- including those with reduced mobility.

On this event we will station ourselves just a short distance from the Accessible Car Park at New Fen, we will watch over the reedbed and wait for marsh harriers coming in to roost. With luck, we have a chance of seeing other birds of prey such as barn owls, hen harrier, merlin and sparrowhawk. Many other small birds such as reed bunting, corn bunting and tits use the reedbeds as a safe overnight location and it is this which attracts merlin and sparrowhawk. We will be facing the setting sun, guides will be on hand throughout and we will have flasks with us so we can enjoy hot drinks and biscuits!

This event is designed to be accessible as possible, so please contact us if you think we could make adjustments to help you. The path to the viewpoint is fairly level and smooth, and around 50m from the carpark. No steps are involved. There will be enough seating at the viewpoint for all guests to use. Participants can join us for as much or as little of the 1.5 hours the event is scheduled for. if the weather is particularly cold, or if it rains, we will postpone to a week later.

For non-RSPB members, the entry fee to Lakenheath Fen is included in the ticket price.
