Wildlife Walks for Women

Join us for a friendly & relaxed, women-only guided walk around The Lodge, led by our knowledgeable female volunteers.

Each month focuses on a seasonal wildlife highlight, ranging from ‘Butterflies & Moths’ to ‘Fungi’. With a passion for nature and in-depth knowledge of The Lodge, our volunteers will take you to the right places on our reserve to experience these seasonal sights & sounds.

April’s focus is on Nest & Nesting Habitats.

Each session alternates between the 3rd Tuesday or 3rd Saturday of the month, focussing on a unique theme.  Themes for the future include:

May – Summer Migrants
June – Wildflowers
July – Butterflies & Moths
August – Dragonflies & Insects
September – Autumn Colours & Harvest
October – Fungi
November – Winter Migrants
December – Fruit & Berries

These events are welcoming of any adults who identify as women. We also welcome non-binary individuals who feel comfortable in a women’s only space to these sessions.

We will cover areas of uneven ground and may go off trail for these sessions. If you have any mobility issues, please see our FAQs below.

Please meet in the picnic area outside the Shop 10 minutes before the session starts. Please arrive earlier and head straight to the Shop if you wish to hire binoculars.  Tickets do not include parking fees, please refer to our FAQs below.

FAQs

Are there minimum age requirements to enter the event? This series of Wildlife Walks for Women is for adults only and inclusive of all individuals that identify as women, including cis and trans women.

Do I need to pay for car parking? Event tickets do not include car parking. Car parking is £6 for Non-members and free for Members. The car parking fee (£6 per vehicle for Non-members) entitles you to free access to The Lodge reserve for the whole day.  Why not make the most of your visit by taking in one of several trails around the reserve or head off to explore The Gardens, planted full of wildlife friendly plants.

What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event? If travelling by car, use our postcode SG19 2DL to find us. See our website for full bus, train, bike and road options. We have a bus stop at the reserve entrance (connecting to Centrebus bus route 188) and 4 bike racks on site.

What should I bring into the event? Having a pair of binoculars will be especially helpful for ‘Bird’ themed sessions and will help you get the most out of the event. If you don’t have your own, you can hire a pair from our Shop for the day. We recommend suitable outdoor clothing for the weather conditions as we will be outside throughout the session (waterproofs & wellies or sunhats & sunscreen) depending on the season.

Can I bring my dog to the event? No dogs, except for registered assistance dogs can join in our event within the nature reserve as we will be heading to areas of the site that are not dog friendly to protect our birds & wildlife. However, do visit with your pet another time as we welcome dogs on our Skylark trail and on the Bridleway transecting the reserve. Our Café is also dog friendly.

Do you cater for special dietary needs? Yes, our Café team can cater for special dietary requirements – please advise them when ordering. Our Café is open from 9.30am – 4.30pm serving freshly cooked food & hot drinks.
