Free Parking at The Lodge

Join us at RSPB The Lodge between the 9 and 17 March and get free parking for National Lottery Open Week. Just place a National Lottery ticket or scratchcard on the front windscreen of your vehicle*.

The Lodge Nature Reserve and Gardens is a very special place, offering an exceptionally rich combination of wildlife and heritage. The woodland, heath and acid grassland here cover an area of some 220 hectares forming the largest stretch of heathland in Bedfordshire. And in spring you could see woodpeckers drumming and calling in the trees, songbirds setting up breeding territories, snowdrops and bluebells on the woodland floor and azaleas and rhododendrons in flower in the headquarters' gardens. Plus Chiffchaffs return in March, and Winter thrushes feed on the acid grassland.

Our reserve boasts 4 signposted trails to help you explore this amazing landscape and the wildlife that calls it home. For families there's the popular Wild Play Trail and play area where young adventurers can go wild on our nature-inspired play equipment including, den building area, natural play equipment and insect hotel complete with sunbathing lizards! The area is unique in Bedfordshire in that it holds two ancient hill forts, dating back to the Iron Age, more than 2,000 years ago. One of these, on Galley Hill, is in particularly good condition, and you can wander around the ancient banks and ditches and imagine about what life may have been like for the people who lived there.

Looking for something on the wild side? Then why not make a trip to The Lodge, with free parking during National Lottery Open Week it's a great time to visit. Or if you're already a member then why not bring your friends and family to visit with you?
