We are once again teaming up with Ribble Bird Tours to bring you a wildlife walk from Lytham Windmill to Lytham Quays.
Throughout Autumn and Winter the Ribble Estuary is teeming with wading birds that spend the Summer in the far North and the Winter here. Once the breeding season is over they make their way over to our "warmer" climes and the mudflats of the Ribble Estuary are a huge food resource.
Autumn and Winter can be a tricky time for wader identification and even the most proficient birder can become unstuck occasionally. Join us and, Ribble Bird Tours as we walk from Lytham Windmill along the promenade to Lytham Quays as the tide comes in. We will take stock of the birds we observe, watching behaviours and unique adaptations that allow them to occupy this particular habitat. We will provide some simple hints and tips for identification and discuss the national significance of this estuary.
Lytham Quays is a little observed area by many, but Stuart has extensive knowledge of it and has seen some fantastic birds there, including a wide range of raptors.
Stuart, your guide is an expert in his field and operates his own bird tour company, travelling far and wide. He is based locally in Lytham and has a wide and vast amount of knowledge. You will never fail to learn something new on a walk out with Stuart. Meet at the Lytham Windmill at 9.30am. The guided walk will last around three hours, with the opportunity to look a little closer with spotting scopes along the way.
Bring your own binoculars or hire a pair from us for £5, if you wish to hire binoculars please let us know prior to the event, so they can be brought to the meeting point.
