Visit RSPB Lochwinnoch during National Lottery Open Week, between 9 and 17 March, to get closer to nature and enjoy free parking with your National Lottery ticket or scratchcard. Simply place your proof of play in the windscreen of your car*.
Only 30 minutes from Glasgow city centre by car or train, this wetland reserve is an ideal spot to get away from it all and enjoy some amazing wildlife with the family. As one of the few wetlands left in the west of Scotland, Lochwinnoch is the perfect place to watch whooper swans, wigeon and a wide variety of ducks during winter months. In spring you won't want to miss the elaborate courtship displays of the great crested grebes and newly-returned sedge warblers and grasshopper warblers singing from the wetter areas of the reserve. Water rails will be heard squealing from the reedbed areas, while frogs and toads can be seen spawning in ponds.
There are three trails - the Dubbs Water Trail, the Aird Meadow Trail, and the Barr Loch Trail - all designed to make spotting our resident wildlife easy, why not hire a pair of binoculars too? You'll also find two hides, two screens and one viewing tower and there are also viewpoints at the end of each trail. Inside we also sell a range of hot drinks, including bean-to-cup coffee, and a variety of sweet and savoury snacks. Plus you can quiz our staff and volunteers on the best places to head to on the reserve for the latest top sightings.
For our younger guests we offer special wildlife themed self-led activities too and our ever popular natural play area, percussion play, den building area, and a fairy trail.
So come and take a look for yourself and enjoy a visit on the wilder side.
