Get closer to nature at RSPB Rye Meads! Visit during National Lottery Open Week, between 18 and 26 March, and show us your National Lottery ticket or scratchcard to get free parking for one vehicle, simply take your ticket to the visitor centre*.
Easily accessible by rail, bus or bike, this delightful wetland reserve, beside the River Lee, is a firm favourite with walkers, birdwatchers and photographers thanks to its many trails and hides. Common terns nest on specially-created rafts during the summer, while snipe, green sandpipers, shovelers, gadwalls and tufted ducks take over during the winter months. Artificial sandbanks are a great place to spot the blue flash of a kingfisher in spring.
Our 7 hides and 3 nature trails provide excellent views of birds that can be seen by eye, enabling children to see wildlife. Special Explorer Backpacks are available for hire during your visit and there is a comprehensive programme of events, including nature trails, guided walks and family fun days.
So if you and your friends and family would like a dose of fresh air surrounded by wonderful wildlife then join us with your National Lottery ticket or scratchcard to get free entry during National Lottery Open Week. And if you're already a member why not bring a friend or two for free too?
