Pond Dipping at RSPB Dungeness

Looking for activities to do with the family during the school holidays?

Come along and find some amazing wildlife that lives beneath the surface! Dungeness is a hot spot for rare species and is the third most biodiverse RSPB site in the country.

Will you be lucky enough to find dragonflies, nymphs, pond skaters, frogs or even one of our rarer species such as the great crested newt or medicinal leeches. Our expert volunteers will be on hand to show you what to do and help identify what you find and all equipment is provided.

There may also be the opportunity to look at what you have found under a microscope!

FAQs 

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?

No, these are events are ideal for all families. Under 18s must be accompanied by an adult please.

Do I need to accompany my child?

Yes please. All children under 18 must be accompanied for the event.

What can I bring into the event?

We recommend suitable outdoor clothing and footwear. If you have good close focus binoculars then please bring them.

Is entry to the reserve included in the price of the tickets?

No. If you are a non RSPB-members, then the reserve entry fees still apply.

If you decide the join the RSPB then you receive free entry to all RSPB nature reserves and discounted tickets for events. Please ask about membership at the visitor centre.

Can I buy a ticket on the day?

Yes, subject to availability, however we recommend advance booking to avoid disappointment. 

What can I bring into the event?

All pond dipping equipment is provided. Please do not bring your own nets as you won't be able to use them in our pond. We recommend suitable outdoor clothing for your visit. If you are also planning a walk, please bring your own binoculars and camera if you have them, or hire binoculars from the shop. You may wish to carry a drink and/or snack.

 Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

Please bring you ticket or email confirmation with you. RSPB members should bring their membership cards with them please. 

Is my registration fee or ticket transferrable?

You can transfer your booking to another event up to 48hrs before the event.
