Youth Action Day at Titchwell Marsh and Snettisham Reserves

Spend a day exploring two of Norfolk's finest nature reserves and see first-hand how conservation efforts are making a difference. Begin your experience with an early visit to Snettisham reserve and prepare for an unforgettable sight. As the tide rises, tens of thousands of birds put on a dazzling aerial display, soaring out of their mudflat hideaway on The Wash. This vast intertidal embayment is one of the largest areas of estuarine mudflats, sandbanks and saltmarsh in Britain and is of vital significance for various breeding and passage birds, shellfish, and the largest breeding colony of Common Seals in Europe. When the water rolls in on a high tide, up to 80,000 wading birds take off in their masses tumbling and whirling in the air – they are the stars of one of Norfolk’s most impressive natural sights.  During the show, you’ll discover how the RSPB is working to protect this important landscape and the wildlife it harbours.

Next stop is Titchwell Marsh reserve. This mosaic of quiet woodlands, sweeping reedbeds and bird filled lagoons opens out to a stretch of unspoilt beach. Climate challenges and coastal change processes drive conservation work to manage and protect these important habitats. After a filling breakfast/brunch it’s time to roll up your sleeves, so make sure you dress to impress the job at hand. You may be asked to help with practical tasks like planting willow whips, mending fences, patrolling areas for beach nesting birds, or assisting with species surveys. At the end of this full-on day, you’ll be amazed at how the RSPB is rocking the boat with these two wildlife hotspots. And you’ll learn how you can help us fight for nature in these climate-crazy times.

This event is open to all 16-24 year olds. The cost is £30 per person including reserve entry fees, transfer from Snettisham to Titchwell Marsh reserve and breakfast/brunch. PPE and equipment will be provided where relevant. Attendees will be supervised at all times and appropriate training given.
