Nightjar Jaunt

Join us for an enchanting evening stroll through Budby South Forest, as we search for the enigmatic nightjar.

This guided walk is an opportunity to experience the magical twilight hours of the forest and hear the unmistakeable sound of the nightjar in its natural habitat.

As the sun sets and darkness descends, the nightjar emerges from its daytime roost to hunt for insects, producing its distinctive churring call and erratic flight patterns. With the help of The Birklands Ringing Group, we will learn to identify the bird’s distinctive features and behaviour, and gain insight into its fascinating life cycle and nocturnal habits.

As we walk through the heathland, the experts from The Birklands Ringing Group will share their knowledge and passion for this elusive bird and its habitat, highlighting the importance of conservation efforts in preserving this species and Budby’s unique ecosystem.

This walk is suitable for all ages and levels of experience. It provides a rare chance to connect with nature at dusk.

The route for this guided walk will use formal pathways, the ground will be uneven and require good footwear.

This walk is subject to weather conditions and may need to be cancelled at short notice. A reschedule or refund will be issued in the event of this.
