Wonderful World of Warblers- a dawn chorus guided walk

Join us for our last dawn chorus guided walk of the year, where our expert volunteer guide will be homing in on one of the most vibrant and talented group of songsters of the bird world - the warblers!

At this time of year, warbler diversity will be at its peak at RSPB Strumpshaw Fen. Where no less than ten species will be at home on the reserve for the summer months.

As well as soaking up the wonderful dawn soundscape, this walk is a fantastic opportunity to focus on warbler ID, which can be both challenging and greatly rewarding. So, set your alarm, grab your walking boots, and join us for an early morning spectacle. Enjoy Norfolk’s most incredible avian musical performers joining forces, taking centre stage, and singing their hearts out in a season finale to remember!

Guided walk outline

Our guide will share his best hints and tips to help you identify both common and scarcer warbler species by both sight and sound, within a variety of habitats. This includes some trickier species pairings like: Blackcap and Garden Warbler; Willow Warbler and Chiffchaff; Reed Warbler and Sedge Warbler.

Warblers might be the stars of the show, there’s so much more to see too. On past walks of this type, we have been treated to excellent views of Bittern, Barn Owl, the elusive Grasshopper Warbler, Swallowtail Butterfly, Norfolk Hawker and Scarce Chaser Dragonfly, Otter and much more.

Expect a walk at a relaxed pace, but (flooding dependent) we will be covering the whole 4km circular fen route on this walk so we can immerse ourselves in prime warbler habitats.
