Wader Watch at Newport Wetlands - Goldcliff Lagoons

An exclusive one off event to see the wonders of Goldcliff Lagoons with wildfowl and waders in great variety. Avocet, Lapwing, Redshank, Black-tailed godwits, Sandpipers, Pintail, Garganey and so much more! We’ll help you learn skills in wader and wildfowl ID by looking at the plumage, behaviour, size and habitat preferences on the pools and banks. With breeding season well under away there is so much going on.

This event is located at Goldcliff lagoons. Remain on Goldcliff Road for 2 miles, at which point the unsurfaced track to the pools leads off to the right and parking is on the left. There is very limited parking so capacity on this walk is limited and we will park along the verge to the east of the national speed limit sign (at approx. ST 370830). What 3 Words: ///fully.eradicate.mystery. Upon arrival, meet your RSPB guide who will show you where to park. There are no facilities at Goldcliff Lagoons but just a 10 minute drive away is the RSPB Visitor Centre at Uskmouth, where you can use toilets and visit our shop and café.

This event will last approximately 2 hours. It is highly recommend that you bring binoculars and a scope if you have one but the guides will have a scope on hand. If you wish to hire binoculars please give us a ring before the event on 01633 636363 or visit the shop the morning of the walk. No dogs on this event please. Assistance dogs are allowed.

Please wear appropriate footwear and check the weather before you come. Please call us for more details on the accessibility of Goldcliff. There is uneven ground and some screens are not accessible for wheelchair users. 2 out of 3 hides have a ramp to access. The first hide's ramp is closed temporarily for safety reasons.

The reserve is on the route of the number 63 bus from Newport city centre, a ‘demand responsive’ service that stops at Goldcliff village (a short walk from the Goldcliff lagoons) and the Uskmouth/visitor car park. More information and booking details can be found by contacting Newport Bus on 01633 211202.
