Ever wondered how our ancient ancestors survived on the heath? And what they lived in?
Join us and the Ancient Technology Centre to have a go at thatching, creating a wattle wall and daubing it with clay, to create a traditional roundhouse and structure. All using historical techniques, based on archaeological remains found nearby. Set in the beautiful setting of Coombe Fields.
The activities are FREE, funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund's Green Recovery Project, but please do book a ticket in your chosen session, as places are limited.
Upon arrival please show your ticket/e-ticket at the Welcome Area and ask for directions to the Iron Age Roundhouse.
Please ensure you stay 2m from participants that are not part of your household or bubble throughout the event and observe Covid guidelines as requested by the event leader.
The Roundhouse is approximately a 20 minute walk from the carpark on reserve trails, so please ensure you wear sturdy footwear and suitable apparel for the weather conditions - it can be breezy in exposed areas. Please also use suncream and insect repellent as necessary and bring water to drink. The cafe is open to sit in and for takeaway until 4.30pm.
