Wildlife Photography Workshop with Kevin Sawford

Join award-winning professional wildlife photographer Kevin Sawford for this summer wildlife photography workshop where you will learn the fundamentals and techniques to capture stunning images of the diverse wildlife that RSPB Minsmere is home to in the summer.  

This workshop is suitable to all levels of photography and has a limited group size of 8 participants so you will receive group and 1:2:1 tuition.

After an initial presentation in the Discovery centre, you will wander around the reserve and use some of the hides to photograph the array of wildlife RSPB Minsmere has to offer. Kevin will provide you with hints and tips to get the best from your camera plus the settings and techniques needed to photograph the wildlife on the day.  

What to bring:

All camera equipment. A telephoto lens of at least 300mm or equivalent would be preferable

Notebook and pen

Any refreshments you may need out on the reserve.

The café is open prior to the event should you wish to have lunch beforehand or buy food to eat during the course.

The course will predominately be outside, please wear appropriate clothing and footwear for the day.

Kevin Sawford is a professional wildlife photographer based in Suffolk. He is one of the RSPB images agency photographers whose work is regularly seen in the RSPB magazine, RSPB literature and merchandise. Kevin has won multiple awards in national and international competitions including the Bird Photographer of the Year, British Wildlife Photography Awards and International Garden Photographer of the Year. FAQs

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event? 

There are no age restrictions, but participants must have their own camera equipment and be able to maintain interest for about six hours.

I am not an RSPB member, can I still attend? Yes, non-members are welcome. Entry fees are included in the ticket prices. If you decide the join the RSPB then you receive free entry to all RSPB nature reserves and discounted tickets for events. What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event? Minsmere is signposted from the A12 and the village of Westleton (two miles away). On arrival there is a large, free car park. Cycle racks are available at the visitor centre. There are toilets in the visitor centre 

What can I bring into the event? We recommend suitable outdoor clothing. Bring your own camera, and binoculars if you have them. You may wish to carry a drink and/or snack. The reserve cafe will be open before the workshop. No dogs, except registered assistance dogs please 

Do I need binoculars? Binoculars are not required for this event, but will be useful. Cameras are essential, however.

What's the refund policy? 

If we cancel an event for any reason you will receive a full refund and we will give you as much notice as practicable. Should you need to cancel, then you receive a full refund up to three days before the event, after which no refund is available. Cancellations must be made by calling us on 01728 648281 between 9 am and 4 pm. Alternatively, we will happily transfer your ticket to another event of the same title. If you are unable to attend on the day, please call us to let us know so that our guides don’t wait for you. 

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event? 

No, we'll have a list of the attendees.  

Is my registration fee or ticket transferrable? 

You can only transfer your booking to another event of the same title up to three days before the event. 

Is it ok if the name on my ticket or registration doesn't match the person who attends? When booking, please list the names of all attendees. On the day we will check the names against the booking, so please make sure that whoever attends knows what name was on their booking.
