Birds for beginners

With the RSPB's Big Garden Birdwatch taking place this weekend, why not take the opportunity to learn more about the wonderful world of woodland birds?

Led by our expert guide Margaret, this walk will introduce you to the birds of Sherwood Forest: how to find and identify common species, understand their behaviours, the importance of preserving their habitats, and the basics of birdwatching.

As we traverse the forest paths, you may encounter a myriad of species, including but not limited to Great spotted, Lesser Spotted and Green Woodpeckers, Redwings, Fieldfares, Tree Creepers, Nuthatches, Song Thrush, Mistle Thrush, Great tits, Blue Tits and Coal Tits.

As this is a walk to see birds in the wild we cannot guarantee that you will see them. However, it will still be an educational and rewarding experience.

Please bring suitable clothing and footwear.

This event is appropriate for all ages, although it may be challenging for families with pushchairs.

Unfortunately, we can't allow dogs on this walk.

If you have binoculars please bring them with you.

Binocular hire

If you don't have binoculars, you can hire a pair from the Visitor Centre shop. Hire prices start at £3 per day for children's sets. Adults can hire an RSPB Puffin pair for £5 or Avocet for £7.

And if you like them so much you'd like to own a pair after the walk, the hire charge will be deducted from the purchase price if you buy them on the same day.

Speak to our knowledgeable staff about the best pair for you.
